4.2 Assessing and evaluating media literacy
Becoming a ‘media literate’ person (through media education activities) means to develop a critical understanding of media and make a more responsible use of them playing an active role in the development of a democratic, pluralistic, and connected society.
This unit offers a theoretical framework for mapping and measuring media literacy competences and developing assessment and evaluation tools and methods. It also offers some practical examples/exercises.
Objectifs de l’unité
- To present a theoretical model of the media literacy competences that are to be developed through media education activities
- To offer an overview and some examples of assessment and evaluation tools and methods that can be used in media literacy work
- To offer an exercise to develop a rubric for assessing and evaluating students’ textual analysis activities
